The family of the Henderson woman shot and killed by her ex-husband say the couple's two sons will live with her sister.

The family of 47-year-old Dr. Renee Bassett released a new picture of her and announced a trust fund will be created to help the dentist's sons go to college.

"So, I need that security. So, I can look at them and say, 'you have the same things as your new brothers.' They need that. They need that," Bassett's sister Penny Fife said.

Fife says the community has come forward to support her family, but she says there is a better option than flowers.

The family says her and her husband had been divorced for ten years. They had joint custody of the two boys.

According to police, Bassett's ex-husband came to her house near Horizon Ridge Parkway and Arroyo Grande Boulevard Tuesday afternoon. The two started arguing and her husband shot her, police said.

Their 13-year-old son was in the next room during the murder, and he called police.

The man was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his car in front of the house.

The Renee Bassett Memorial Fund has been created at Wells Fargo Bank. The account number is 1255159814 and the routing number is 32127042.
