A young Pittsburgh mother was gunned down outside a nightclub early New Year's Day, becoming the city's first murder victim in 2012 — 17 years after her baby brother became the city's first murder of 1995.

Shateecha Roach, a 27-year-old mother of two who worked with handicapped schoolchildren, died at UPMC Presbyterian hospital on Sunday after she was hit by stray gunfire from a fight at a nightclub, authorities said.

Her devastated mother, Edna Roach, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that Shateecha was planning to ring in the New Year with her daughters, Anniyah, 10, and Kaleaha, 7, weeks.
