JESSIE COLE DARNELL, 18, resident of Lordsburg passed away Tuesday May 8, 2007 in Lordsburg.
Visitation will be Monday afternoon from 12 to 3 at the Lordsburg High School Gymnasium where funeral services will begin at 3 o'clock with Wayne Livingston and David Lackey officiating. Interment will follow at Shakespeare Cemetery.
Jessie was born September 4, 1988 in Deming to Billy Darnell and Lisa Diaz. He was currently a Senior at Lordsburg High School and has been very involved in athletics. He was a 4-year letterman in several sports and a 5-year letterman in baseball. Jessie loved to hunt and be in the outdoors and passed the New Mexico Hunter Safety Course with a 100% score at the age of 10. He is remembered by many things including entering a room or greeting a friend with "What's Up" and one of his most memorable phrases was when Lordsburg was playing for the State Football Championship when Jessie told his teammates "They are not going to give it to us-We're going to have to go out there and take it" - and they did.
He is survived by his parents, Billy Darnell and his wife Jonna of Animas; Lisa Diaz and Teddy Medina of Lordsburg, his son, Jaiden Darnell of Lordsburg; 3 brothers, Travis Darnell of Albuquerque, Ryan Anderson and his wife Vanessa of San Diego, CA, Michael Medina of Lordsburg; 4 sisters, Danielle Lasher of Animas, Jamie Diaz and Sabrina Medina of Lordsburg, Kacy Schmidt of Scottsdale, AZ; his grandma Becky Diaz; and niece and nephews, Darren Edgar, and Raymond and Ashley Saucedo.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Esquivel, Tommy Ray Lopez, Jose Fong, Zachary Ramirez, Angel Saenz, Anthony Chavez, John Samuels , Matt Aguilera, Justin Barker and Adam Jimenez. Honorary bearers are the entire Lordsburg School System and all their Hidalgo County friends whose friendship means so much.
