THE 19-year-old driver who was killed after the Holden Commodore she was driving collided with a telegraph pole on Monday afternoon has been identified as Kimberley Conna.

Her boyfriend of the same age, Kyle Davis, was a passenger and is fighting for his life in Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition after suffering serious head injuries.

Police said Miss Conna had stopped at traffic lights at the intersection of Ellsworth Drive in Tregear next to a Toyota Corolla being driven by a 22-year-old man.

Both cars took off when the lights turned green, travelling north on Luxford Road, but the Commodore lost control and collided heavily with a telegraph pole, police said, causing the car to break in two and burst into flames.

The driver of the Corolla attempted to avoid the crash but was unsuccessful, colliding with the Commodore and also catching on fire. The man driving that car was taken to Westmead hospital with a broken jaw.

Inspector Steve Blair from the Metropolitan Crash Unit said speed was a factor in the crash.
"Investigators will be carrying out inquiries to find out if street racing was a part of it," he said.

Today the devastated family members of Miss Conna went to the scene of the tragedy.
Investigators are seeking information from the public to piece together exactly what took place prior to the crash.
