I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. … She is an object of beauty and strength and I watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just there where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "There . . . she's gone." Gone where? Gone from my sight . . . that is all. She is large in mast and hull and spar, as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her: and just at the moment when someone at my side says, "There . . . she's gone, there are other eyes watching her coming, other voices ready to take up the glad shout: Here she comes!! Love you baby . . . light up heaven! From all who cherished you. To Everyone who is sharing in our loss Thank you for all of your love and support. We thought it was important that you understand what is going on with our baby. Ariel's mother, father, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins have been together since Sunday evening. We are laughing, crying and sharing stories. The impact of our loss will not be fully felt until this becomes real.
We know that Ariel is here with us as she is there with you; only her beautifully decorated skin remains on earth. Ariel will be cremated and returned to us. We will not be having a traditional funeral.
We are sorry that we are not providing closure but we ask that you help us celebrate her. Please love each other and hold tight find a way to honour her. Because we will not have a plot we would like somewhere that we can go and reflect on her gifts to us.
Does anyone know Ariel's favourite place? We do not all have to agree on one; find yours and go there when you need to, but remember she will always be with you. We do not need flowers; if you would like to do something: help a friend, give blood. What would Ariel do? If you love Ariel you know how harsh people can judge, forgive someone.
