Family and friends are planning a benefit concert to establish the Cam Vennard Music and Vocal Scholarship.
14 year old Cameron Vennard was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Kirkwood on May 30, 2012. Police say Vennard was listening to music with headphones did not hear the train coming up behind him as he walked along the tracks.
"Cam loved music so we thought a "Cam Jam" was a great way to honor Cam's memory. We will play songs by Cam's favorite artists," said Dillon Wilfong, Cam's friend, neighbor and member of The Sages Band.
A benefit concert called "Cam Jam" will feature The Sages Band with special appearances by Ben Vennard, Aaron Doerr, Ian Johnson and Owen Wilhelms. The "Cam Jam" will be Thursday, July 12, 2012, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Kirkwood Station Plaza.
Organizers say the concert is free. Tax-deductible donations can be made to the Kirkwood School District. Donations will be used to establish the Cam Vennard Music and Vocal Scholarship at Nipher Middle School. The scholarship funds may be used for anything that is related to music, such as instrument rentals, music lessons, books, etc. The funds will also establish a memorial at Kirkwood High School from the Class of 2016. Donations will be accepted at the concert or can be mailed to the Kirkwood School District Community Relations Office, Cam Vennard Memorial Scholarship, 11289 Manchester Road, 63122.
