A 23-year-old Franklinville man who was lying in the westbound lane in the 1700 block of Coles Mill Road was run over by a car early Saturday and later died of his injuries.

Police responded to a report of an unconscious man on the road about 1:30 a.m. When officers arrived they found Williamstown resident William Belsky, 20, at the scene.

Belsky said he was driving west on Coles Mill Road when his front seat passenger alerted him to something in the road.

Belsky told police he attempted to swerve, but could not avoid running over Matthew Clark, who was lying in the road. Clark was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they do not know why Clark was lying in the road. No charges have been filed against Belsky, officials said.
