Police are searching for a suspect who shot and killed a Fort Myers man early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, at 1:31 a.m., the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a call for gunshots heard near Jackson Street and Maple Avenue. Upon arrival police located 21-year-old Jamel James, of Fort Myers, suffering from a gunshot wound.

James was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where he died.

Police canvassed the area and located witnesses who reported seeing several males wearing ski masks fleeing the scene. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
