Former NFL player Junior Seau has died in a shooting at his home, according to reports by TMZ, 10News, the San Diego Union-Tribune and various media outlets.

Harry Levin of TMZ initially tweeted that police were are at the home of the 12-time Pro Bowl player, who starred with the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots during 20 seasons in the NFL.

According to 10News.com, a witness reported hearing a gunshot at Seau's home in the Oceanside neighborhood of San Diego on Wednesday morning. That report could not immediately be confirmed by the news outlet, who described the situation at Seau's home as including a "large presence" of police.

Shortly after Levin's tweet, TMZ Sports cited a law enforcement source saying that Seau had died. TMZ was initially unable to confirm this report but they soon obtained a confirmation.

Law enforcement sources confirmed to TMZ that Seau was found dead in his home and that they are "investigating a possible shooting."

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that a 911 call was made at approximately 10 a.m. local time that indicated a "possible suicide."
