An 18-year-old man died Wednesday, two days after he crashed into a car while riding his skateboard in North Berkeley, police said.

Tyler De Martini of Berkeley was riding his skateboard west on Marin Avenue when he hit a Toyota Prius that was heading east on Marin Avenue and making a left turn onto Tulare Avenue about 7:05 p.m. Monday, said Berkeley police Sgt. Mary Kusmiss.

De Martini was taken to a hospital, where he died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday.

He was not wearing a helmet and was not required to wear one because he is 18, Kusmiss said.

The 54-year-old Berkeley man driving the Prius stopped after the crash.

The police investigation determined that De Martini was at fault because he was in the road, Kusmiss said.

De Martini's death is the second involving a skateboarder in the East Bay in the past week.

Tucker Hacking, 20, of Walnut Creek died Sunday, two days after crashing on his skateboard in Lafayette.
