Authorities identified the man who jumped to his death from the center of the Sunshine Skyway bridge early Thursday morning as Stanley Pawlosky Jr. of Clearwater.

Divers recovered Pawlosky's body, which landed on rocks under the bridge, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Pawlosky, 51, of 1550 S Belcher Road, No. 512, apparently drove to the center of the bridge and jumped around 2:30 a.m., the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were alerted to the suicide after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle.

The span is 197 feet high at the center.

The Sunshine Skyway is the nation's fourth-most-frequent suicide bridge. At least 81 people have jumped off the bridge in the past decade. Eleven survived.
