An 18-year-old man was arrested less than 24 hours after authorities say he shot 17-year-old girl to death inside an Elizabeth apartment on Monday morning.

Fahteem Tucker, of Elizabeth, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with the death of Zorymar Rosado, whose body was found inside an apartment on South Spring Street early Monday. She had been shot once, said Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow.

Authorities have not yet released information as to whether Tucker knew the victim, or if a motive for the crime has been identified.

Tucker, who was taken into custody by the Union County Homicide task force, is now being held on $500,000 bail at the Union County Jail.

This was the first homicide of 2010 in Union County, said Romankow, who praised his detectives for their quick work.

"This is just another example of detectives identifying and arresting a suspect before the person has a chance to harm someone else," the prosecutor said.

Tucker will have his first court appearance in the coming days.
