The 15-year-old city girl who was struck and killed Tuesday night as she tried to cross Routes 1&9 has been identified as Cintia Salce, investigators said.

Salce and her friend were attempting to cross the highway at the intersection of Grier Avenue when a 2004 Infiniti Nissan struck the girl shortly after 8 p.m., said Lt. Bill Duggan of the Elizabeth Police Department Traffic Division. The girl died at the scene.

The pair were visiting a friend who works at the nearby 7-Eleven, police said.

Witnesses said Salce was crossing against the light, and the vehicle had the right of way, Duggan said. The driver of the Infiniti, who is pregnant, was given medical attention. The driver had a good driving record, Duggan said.

"She was traveling in the middle lane when this girl ran out in front of her," Duggan said.
