Friday, July 10, 2009 Please Pray for the Bales Family On July 4, Dwayne's cousin, Cody Bales, age 22, had a car accident and was taken off of the ventilator yesterday afternoon. He was 1 of 3 children, and his parents are experiencing great loss at this time. Please lift the Bales family up in your prayers this week as you think of them. I know that they would greatly appreciate it. http://dwayneandmandywilliams.blogspot.com/

Jeffrey again. As I am sure most of you have heard, Cody passed tonight. I want to thank everybody for the prayers lifted in his name. Cody was the best friend anybody could ask for. He genuinely cared for everyone of his friends, and would have been there for anybody in a time of need. I know that gets said about a lot of people, but this time it is honestly true. I'm not sure how to explain how myself, or any of his loved ones, are feeling right now. I just pray that God lets him know just how much he is loved, and will be missed. I can honestly say losing him is the hardest thing I have experienced in my life, and things will never be the same without him. Cody Bales, I love you with every breath I take and will never forget the memories we have shared. Not a day will pass where you don't cross my mind, and I can't wait until I am with you again. May you forever Rest In Peace. I love you.
** 10:15pm July 8 - This is Jeffrey and I want to thank everybody for all the prayers. Cody would be absolutely thrilled to see all the people that care about him. I ask to please keep them coming, because he is needing them now more than ever. This is such a tough time for the family, but they have been saying how happy it makes them that so many people have joined this group in just a few short days, 1,246. It's amazing, and it just goes to show the kind of guy Cody is. Please just keep the prayers coming. Also, if myself or anyone else fails to respond to a text message or phone call, please don't take it personally. There are a lot of people wanting information and just not enough time to respond.
** 7:30am Jul 8 Please pray for Cody's ICP to come down. Its been high today and they are taking him in to do another scan to see what is going on
** Update on Bethany - Bethany is doing great, she was in a very good mood today. She is able to walk with the help of a walker or a shoulder to lean on, and may be coming home tomorrow.
** 10:00 pm July 7 - Just got home from the hospital, and Cody's swelling is looking great. Swelling around both sides of his head has greatly reduced, as well as selling on his face. Just please everybody continue to pray. Also, for anyone who makes the trip to see him. Do not go to the ICU without someone who knows what is going on. Please find someone in the family or has been there and ask them what you need to do to see him. There are very strict rules, and they are there for a reason, all for Cody's benefit. Walking straight in could actually hinder Cody's recovery.
There are a lot of rumors going around, and I wanted to try to take this chance to clear some things up. One rumor is that the nurse pinched him and Cody jerked away from it. That is not true. Going right along with that rumor is that he is moving his arms and feet freely. As much as I wish it were true, again it is not. All Cody's movement has been very minimal, and possibly involuntary. But as Scott posted earlier, tomorrow is very crucial for Cody. The family has asked that all prayers be specifically directed toward keeping the pressure on his brain low. I'm going back to the hospital as soon as I can tomorrow, so I will try to get updates when possible.
**8:45pm July 6 Just came from the hospital. The doctors said that tomorrow will be the most important day for Cody. The third day is usually the day when the swelling can be the worst. They want the pressure on his brain to remain under 20 as of now it is around 19 and 20 and has went up as high as 21. The family is asking for prayers. They would like you to pray specifically for the pressure to decrease.
To add to the earlier update, I left out that he is initiating some breathing on his own.
** 10:40 am July 6 - I just received a phone call that Cody is responding to touch1! His Aunt Denise grabbed his arm and he jerked that arm, and when she placed her hand on his chest, he began to shrug his shoulders. This is great news, especially this early.
The last info I have, Cody is still in rough shape, but anybody who knows him knows he is a fighter. I know he can come out of this. They are waiting for the swelling to reduce on his brain and then they can start helping him, and these first 48 hours are very crucial.
**For those who haven't heard, he was involved in a bad car accident last night, and rolled his truck. Bethany Hughes and Eric Bochman were also in the truck, and Bethany suffered a broken back, but her injuries are not life threatening. Eric was virtually unharmed. Cody on the other hand, has a broken back, neck, several bones in his face, swelling on his brain, and on life support in a coma.
