An Orleans County man died early Saturday morning when he lost control of his vehicle.

Deputies say James East II, 23, was driving on State Route 237 in Clarendon around 2:45 a.m.

Police said the vehicle went off the road and struck a fire hydrant before careening into a group of trees.

East was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the car, Dylan DipIlato, 20, of Holley, was transported to Strong Hospital.

Deputies said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
