A man who killed five people and himself in a rampage at a western Kentucky plastics plant called his girlfriend two hours before the rampage to warn her that he was going to kill his boss, police said Wednesday.

Police said Wesley N. Higdon, 25, had an argument with his supervisor about wearing safety goggles and using his cell phone while was at his press machine Tuesday.

Later that night, as the supervisor escorted him from the building, Higdon shot him, apparently using a .45-caliber pistol he kept in his car. Then, he charged into a break room and the plant floor and kept shooting before turning the gun himself, police said.

"He just walked in, looked like he meant business, and started shooting at everybody," Henderson Police Sgt. John Nevels said at a news conference.

A man who called 911 frantically described the violent scene to a dispatcher, tallying up the number of dead around him.

"There's more than two people dead. There's like one, two, three, four, five people dead," the man said. "The supervisor is dead, too."

The killings stunned the sleepy Ohio River town of about 28,000 people, where a local leader said many residents know or are related to a worker at the plant. The plant, operated by Atlanta-based Atlantis plastics, employs about 150 people and makes parts for refrigerators and plastic siding for homes.

Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer identified the supervisor as Kevin G. Taylor, 30, of Dixon. The slain co-workers were Trisha Mirelez, 25; Rachael Vasquez, 26 and Joshua Hinojosa, 28, all of Sebree; and Israel Monroy, 29, of Henderson. Shooting survivor Noelia Monroy, Israel's sister, was hospitalized in nearby Evansville, Ind.

"Our whole community is in shock," Henderson County Judge-Executive Sandy Watkins said.

Employees at the company were sent home Wednesday, but the company said that it hoped to resume limited operations at night. Atlantis Plastics CEO Bud Philbrook told The Associated Press in an interview in Atlanta that the company was reeling.

"It's just total shock. It's something you read about in the paper," Philbrook said.

Investigators were trying to piece together the timing of the shooting spree. Philbrook said that Higdon didn't appear to have any previously disciplinary problems at the plant.

Nevels said family members told detectives that Higdon kept a .45 caliber pistol in his car almost all the time, which is permissible in Kentucky.

Four of the victims were members of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sebree, Ky., said the Rev. Jason McClure, who had spent much of the morning with the victims' families.

"They are very upset and hurting deeply and just trying to figure out what to do next," McClure said.

In a news release on the company's Web site, Atlantis Plastics said it is a leading U.S. manufacturer of three kinds of products: polyethylene stretch films for wrapping pallets of materials, custom films for industrial and packaging uses, and molded plastic pieces used in products such as appliances and recreational vehicles.

The company has annual sales of $110 million, according to business directory Hoovers.

See, now this loser just pisses me off. Not just crazy enough to kill your boss that you are mad at, but to be a complete f-ing psycho and just start shooting random people that hadn't done anything what so ever to you. :angry2: The only good out of this whole situation is that he turned the gun on himself afterwards.
Oh, and you have his nieces and cousins leaving comments on his page after the shooting about how he was the best guy ever :stupid:
I do like Black Market Resales comment on the 26th though
Wow, he shot his manager because he didn't want to wear safety goggles at work and because he couldn't use his cell phone. What a loser.
This is so messed up. What a lame reason to go on a shooting spree. Was he even fired for the incident with the phone and glasses, or did he just not want to be told what to do? Granted, I'm sure operating a machine press in Ohio is not the funnest existence in the world, but that's no reason to do what he did. Said he carried a gun around in his car. Typical psycho, just waiting for any excuse to go berzerk.
From a comment left on his page I can surmise that he just had a baby with someone. Guess its better that he's dead so the baby won't be exposed to such psychotic behavior down the road. Still can't believe things like this happen, how in the hell does that enter someone's mind? If you're going to off yourself, its the epitome of selfishness to take others with you.
Its people like this that scare me. There are a couple of people I work with that almost act like they could lose it any minute. I just about completely ignore them because I keep thinking I might say the wrong thing or look at them the wrong way and they go and do something like this. One of them received a general discharge from the military, but I don't know why. He was also trying to get into law enforcement for a long time, but never made it. I don't know if he owns any guns, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I hope this girlfriend he called and warned 2 hours prior actually called law enforcement.  Wait, doesn't sound like it  :|
I would just love to know what in the hell would make a seemingly "normal" person snap like that.  I would imagine the girlfriend thought he was just blowing off steam and never dreamed he would do something so unspeakable.  I feel so sad for the families of the co workers.  Scary stuff these workplace rampages.

i wondered the same thing. it always amazes me how people can be so supportive and loving to assholes who act like this. i wouldn't be very supportive if someone i was related to did something like this. he certainly wasn't a great person. and f him even more if he just had a child. that's so messed up.
Shitty, This is truley symptomatic of our fucked up society in general.

RIP - All involved

No, society didn't make him do it. But our society is conducive to bringing about people like this. Hell, this site is an archive of this type of behavior. While its true that accountability ultimately falls back on the individual, it forces you to look elsewhere for blame when they do something like this.  But I suppose there will always be a small segment of the populous that are born as psychopaths and will eventually do something like this at some point in their lives.

I do not think that our society neither causes this behavior nor condones this behavior, but I do think that our mental health care system has a long way to go in order to get these people in treatment before they end up going on a rampage.
From his comments, in response to his family posting how great he was this guy seems to be the only one with any sense:

Well, you always said you would go out with a bang, but I never could have imagined anything like this. I still can't believe it's real, I'm sure gonna miss you....You were my best friend, I just don't get it.....
What a massive loser he is, but I'm glad he killed himself and spared taxpayers the burden of supporting him.

I don't beleive these people are born psycopaths. Somthing about the way we live brings these people about, especially the way we live NOW.

I'm just saying this due to the fact that these people didnt exist in these numbers 50 years ago. Somthing has changed, and it hasnt been our genetics.

That's an interesting observation and I tend to agree with it, but I wonder if it's actually true?

Maybe we didn't hear about it as much 50 years ago because we didn't have the internets and instant information.  But maybe, if we looked at incidents per thousand/population the numbers might be real similar.  Of course, I don't think they kept those kind of statistics back then.

Off to check...
Oh they existed. One huge difference, tho.  50-100 years ago, if your spouse/child flipped out you could have them committed. Now you have to wait until the commit a horrendous crime before you can get them locked up.

The shooting was caught on the plant's surveillance camera.  (warning: video below is of the shooting)

wow. he walked up and shot someone in the head from behind. poor guy never knew what was coming. what a fucking coward. i hate to sound cold but i'm glad he turned the gun on himself. i don't feel bad about his death but i do about his innocent victims.
