The family of a city woman claimed by street violence wants her to be remembered as a loving mother who was cruelly gunned down, leaving her eldest boy an orphan and her youngest daughter with only a young child's memory of her slain mom.
Tiffany Lomax, 28, was riding in a car on River Street in Mattapan two blocks from her home early yesterday morning when it was targeted by gunfire. Bullets ripped through the vehicle, hitting the man driving twice in the arm and striking Lomax in the chest. The driver raced to Carney Hospital, where Lomax died from her injuries around 2:30 a.m.
"Our family is outraged at this sensless violence that has now touched our family," said her uncle, Kenny Budd, who raised Lomax from a young age. "Tiffany's murder was a horrendous crime and we vow to make sure justice is served upon the ones who are responsible."
Lomax's death is the city's 31st murder of the year, the fewest by this date since 2005, when the city ended the year with a decade high 75 murders. Budd said the father of Lomax's 9-year-old son was murdered in 2006. Her 4-year-old daughter's father is still alive.
Budd stood on the steps of the Greater Love Tabernacle Church, surrounded by Lomax's grieving family and with the Rev. William E. Dickerson at his side.
"We are going to make certain," Budd vowed through tears, "that Tiffany does not become another unsolved homicide statistic."
