A two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning at the intersection of Dresden Avenue and state Route 170 resulted in the death of an East Liverpool woman.
According to a Ohio State Highway Patrol report, Amanda M. DeSarro, 21, of East Liverpool, sustained fatal injuries when her vehicle was struck by another driven by Georgia Vanwey, 90, of Wellsville, at 10:43 a.m. Tuesday. DeSarro reportedly was driving south on state Route 170 in her 1996 GMC Jimmy when it was struck by Vanwey''s 2002 Buick Century.
Vanwey reportedly was stopped on Dresden Avenue before she proceeded south through the red light on state Route 170 and struck the left rear of DeSarro''s vehicle. The crash flipped the GMC Jimmy on its left side.
Lisbon Post Sergeant Ron Cox said an off-duty trooper arrived on the scene within one minute. St. Clair Township police, Glenmoor Fire Department and North Star Critical Care also were at the accident.
Cox also said DeSarro was quickly transported to East Liverpool City Hospital.
The report stated DeSarro, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle. Vanwey, who was wearing a seatbelt, received no injuries from the incident.
The crash is still under investigation with the highway patrol still taking statements, Cox said. No charges had been filed as of press time.
