A Rutherford County teenager died in a collision crash Thursday morning.

Investigators said 16-year-old Jordan Henderson's pickup veered into the path of a dump truck on South Church Street in Murfreesboro.

Henderson died at the scene.

Henderson was a pitcher at Riverdale High School where he would have been a senior in the upcoming school year.

On Thursday night, friends and relatives held two memorial services in Murfreesboro- one at Henderson's house and another at his school.

Hundreds of people attended the services to remember the young high school athlete.

He played in a baseball game Wednesday night.

Outside of Henderson's home, a crowd gathered, with people holding lit candles and praying.

"You hear about it happening all the time, but you never think it will happen to someone you know," said a friend Ben Jones.

"It's too soon," Henderson's aunt Rita Frizzell. "It's too soon. He was suddenly taken from us."

Henderson was on his way to work at 6 a.m. when his truck drifted into oncoming traffic and hit by a dump truck.

Henderson was a star pitcher who wanted to play baseball in college.

"That's what he was looking forward to," Jones said.

Inside his wallet, his parents found an article about St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols' relationship with God.

"His mother said it had been in his wallet since last fall," Frizzell said. "When she opened it up after he passed this morning, she saw it there."

Copies of the article were distributed at the services where hundreds of people gathered.

"It's great to know that his life touched the lives of others in a positive way," Frizzell said.

The investigation into how this accident happened continues.

No criminal charges have been filed.
