A South Charleston man is dead following an apparent robbery attempt.

It happened around midnight in a downtown Charleston parking garage.

25-year-old Joshua Boggess was leaving his job at a local restaurant and walking to his car parked inside the building.

Police say that's when Boggess was approached by three teenage males. Police say Boggess apparently struck one of the men and that's when a shot was fired. Witnesses say they heard a shot and saw the males flee in a car.

When the call came in to police, callers said there was a drunk sitting in the parking garage. People leaving a nearby movie theatre thought the victim was intoxicated because he was sitting upright. When officers arrived and realized that he was the victim of a shooting, it was too late. Boggess died at the scene.

Police have arrested the teen who allegedly fired the shot. They will discuss with the prosecutor's office whether to arrest the other two juveniles involved.
