A driver traveling east on Iron Bridge Road in Jackson County early Saturday morning apparently lost control of her vehicle and was killed in the crash that followed.

The accident also left her passenger seriously injured and hospitalized at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

According to a press release, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at 1:42 a.m. to the scene of a one-car rollover on Iron Bridge Road, approximately two miles west of Spragueville. Upon their arrival, authorities and emergency personnel found a 1996 Chrysler Sebring occupied by driver Ashley L. Miller, 20, and her passenger, Keith L. Kunde, 23, both of rural Miles.

It was determined Miller’s car was traveling east on Iron Bridge Road, crossed the centerline and entered the north ditch. It then became airborne, flipping end-over-end several times before coming to rest on its top.

Miller was pronounced dead at the scene by Jackson County Medical Examiner Paul Koob. Kunde was transported to the Jackson County Regional Health Center by Preston city ambulance; he was later transferred via helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Services for Miller will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, with visitation scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Assisting the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Preston Fire and Rescue and the Preston Ambulance. The accident remains under investigation.
