A Gridley murder victim left a trail of blood as he tried to get help. But he died despite efforts to save him. 18-year-old Trenton Stopplemore died late Thursday night shortly after ringing the doorbell at a home on East Gridley Road. A 911 call came in just before 11pm but Stopplemore died on the front lawn of the home.

He bled to death from several stab wounds. Investigators say the stabbing happened a half mile away, in the parking lot of the Gridley Farm Labor Camp.

Sgt. Steven Pelton talked about possible motives for the killing. "We're looking at everything from gang, to vendetta, to owing money, anything out there." Stopplemore's car was set on fire within minutes of the crime, and was found about a mile from the labor camp on River Road.
