A one-car accident Friday night in the Buford area killed one teenager and injured five others.

The group of teens were travelling on Bart Johnson Road near Ridge Road in the Buford area when the driver, 18-year-old Justin Curtas of Dacula, apparently lost control of the Oldsmobile and ran it into a tree.

Curtas died at the scene. The other occupants were transported to area hospitals and are expected to survive.

Preliminary investigation indicates that speed was a factor, but alcohol was not. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Gwinnett County Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit is actively investigating the accident.
