Three young men died in a car crash Saturday after leaving a party where drugs and alcohol were present, authorities said.

The speeding car crashed into a mailbox, pole and tree in Rancho Santa Fe. The crash on Mount Israel Road above Del Dios Highway, south of Mount Israel Place, was reported around 3:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

One of those killed was 19-year-old Colby Harper Taylor, of Escondido, a medical examiner investigator said.

The 1998 Honda Civic was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to California Highway Patrol Dispatcher Francisca Morrison.

The impact of the crash nearly split the car in two, Morrison said.

Mount Israel Road was closed for more than seven hours because of the wreck, Rancho Santa Fe Battalion Chief Jim Sturtevant said.

The names of the 20-year-old driver and the other passenger were not immediately released, pending notification of their families, medical examiner Investigator James Ramirez said.
